Mainstage We produce new work and re-imaginations of established texts. Our mainstage productions fulfill our mission to shed light on the unique phenomenon that is the world city of Los Angeles. With Colored Contradictions, our March 2006 mainstage production, we juxtaposed old and new texts to illuminate the African-American experience in Los Angeles. With our 2006 world premiere play Arlington, developed from a Wings Project, we explored the impact of war on those at home and in our 2008 production of Sissy, we featured a slice of life experience of a young boy dealing with his developing sexuality in Culver City.
Mutual Education Theater Academy Instead of the community coming to the theater, Angels spend six weeks or more in residential communities providing Los Angeles children and adults workshops in playwriting, acting, improvisation, and stagecraft. In exchange we seek to learn from course participants and gain a deeper understanding of our city and its populace. This mutual education leads to the development of talent in participants as well as professional theater productions that reflect Los Angeles.
The Wings Projects An ongoing laboratory for the development of new work and the re-imagining of established text. Angels produce, direct, write, act in projects that are near to their hearts, developing into multi-faceted artisans within an environment which encourages us to stretch outside our boundaries. Workshop projects are given six public performances and may become future mainstage productions.
The Playwright's Group Twice a month some of L.A.'s best playwrights meet to develop material surrounding the diversity of our city. In April of 2008, the Playwrights Group developed and produced a highly successful run of LA VIEWS: Ten Minutes at a Time.
